What is Personal Training?

Personal Training is when a fitness expert consults with you to formulate and execute an individualized diet and exercise routine to achieve certain goals. Some goals may include weight loss, weight gain, increased speed, and increased stamina. Training a person requires coordination of several aspects like diet, training location, difficulty level, supplements, and vitamins. Successful personal training is achieved through detailed analysis of the individual and his or her goals. Some training may require free weights, nautilus equipment, swimming pool, or a stationary bike. Experienced personal trainers will create a plan that takes all of your individual needs into account.

The Training Process

The first step may seem obvious, but it is critical to determine your goals for personal training. Are you training for a bodybuilding competition or trying to shave a second off your best lap time? Once your fitness goals are established, our trainers will work with you to decide points like diet, program design, dates, times, etc. From there, our personal training experts handles just about everything from helping you understand a most important aspect of your program which is your nutrition and introduce you to proper form and technique of exercise routines that will strengthen your elongated muscle and stretch shortened ones to decrease level of discomfort usually associated with imbalance between muscles. Such imbalance can easily lead to inability to perform with optimal strength and often times could increase a chance of injury.

Our trainers will be a source of constant motivation and positive reinforcement. One of the most overlooked aspects of success is accountability. Weekly tests of strength, cardio endurance, flexibility, agility, and body composition is one of the best ways to physically see the progress achieved by clients. One of the very effective methods utilized by our trainers is a visual comparison of a client at the beginning of the training program and the end of each training cycle (usually one month). Taking a picture (by permission) of the clients at the beginning of the program and after the end of the training cycle usually helps clients to realize visual changes that their bodies went through. All data is kept strictly confidential and available to clients by request. Professional personal trainers must be able to individualize a training program to suit your current fitness level and future goals. We do that by analyzing your current level of fitness using simple test protocols and verbal interviews.

The Results

Mark is the best example that hard work and consistency in following good nutrition can change not only his physique but also entire life.

The Training Sessions

Each great workout session with the client is designed to accomplish two objectives:

1. Confuse your muscles - by adding constant stress to the body to which the body is not used to. Prolonged stress in the form of exercise will force the body to adapt to it and as a result you will have an outcome for which you trained using specific training methods. Example: If you can easily lift a 10 lb. dumbbell over your head, your central nervous system that controls the muscles recognizes it as something that is "normal". If suddenly you start lifting a 20 lb. dumbbell to challenge your muscles, your CNS may recognize it as a warning signal and as a result will force the muscle to get stronger either by increasing the size of the muscle or by increasing a number of mitochondria’s (power plants within the muscles cells) to adapt to that stress caused by the increased weight you are lifting now. In this case you will add lean muscle mass to your body which will not only make you stronger but also speed up your metabolism. Faster metabolism means more calories burned, so you could expect now a decrease in your body fat level, provided you follow sensible and sound nutrition and a supplementation program.

2. Teach clients about their body. During the training sessions you will be instructed not only on the exercises but also on the muscle’s anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics. We truly believe that the more our clients know about themselves the more successful they are in the long term run.

A great training session with a personal trainer should always focus on a client needs, not on the trainer's needs. Trainers should always listen to clients and clients must be very open and honest while communicating with their trainer.

In the clip below you will see an example of one of the workout routines based on the body weight exercises which combines strength and cardiovascular elements. The goal for this client is to decrease his body fat/ size to get ready for professional ballroom dance competitions.

Great Workouts Should Be: Safe, Informative, Challenging, Innovative, Fun, and Satisfying

  1. The Safety of our clients during the training session is our top priority. Clients must communicate openly with our trainers if they feel any discomfort, pain, dizziness, or if they feel like the exercise is just too difficult. Some exercises by their nature may be dangerous to clients if proper communication is not being maintained. There is nothing to be ashamed of or afraid of when it comes to your own safety.
  2. Clients must learn as much as they can. Our trainers are proud of the fact that they can "send" their clients on vacation or business trip with peace of mind knowing that they (clients) will know what to do.
  3. If you don’t feel it, it doesn't’t work. With all due respect to everyone who walks their dog for exercise - it’s not an exercise if you walk the same dog around the same block at the same pace for 5 years in a row. Remember that muscle confusion is the objective of a workout session.
  4. Our trainers stay on the cutting edge of science all the time by participating in fitness workshops, continuing educations courses and participating in meetings with other trainers to share the wealth of experience and opinions with other leading fitness experts. The workout sessions with our trainers brings the clients new challenges and new approaches to their ultimate goals based on the latest research from National Academy of Sport Medicine.
  5. Oh no! I've got to go the gym again! This is something you will never hear from our clients. They just can’t wait to come back for more because every workout sessions is just pure serious fun.
  6. A great workout session must give a client a sense of accomplishment. Our clients find out what was almost unthinkable to do month ago, a week ago, or even one day ago now becomes easier do to.
